News: APRIL / MAY 2009 Just a quick newsletter to bring you up to date with what has been happening and what we hope will happen over the next few months. The dinner and prize giving was again a good evening but it would have been nice to have had more of the award winners present to collect their trophies. The AGM the following week was very poorly attended with 15 supporters which can only mean you are happy with the way things are going. No major changes, all officers and committee remain the same with the exception of Frank Ward who has retired after many years service. Frank was our only true moto cross member on the committee. He rode for many years and was a works mechanic for Dave Nichol and the BSA team in their heyday. Frank has many stories to tell of their escapades. Perhaps he would write and article for the Megaphone?? As a gesture of the club’s appreciation of Franks long service he was awarded the Preston Cobb award at the dinner. The Cuckoo trial was held in glorious weather and turned out to be a great event. Even though the weather was dry the banks of the stream after the first lap were not and took marks from all classes. The cuckoo pens have been used regularly since the early sixties and is always a very pleasant venue. The next event is the first of the summer series to be held on Friday 1st May at Elsworth Moto Parc starting at 6.00pm. Nick Wilford will be in charge, strictly closed to club, entries on the night. Entry fee all classes £7.00 PLEASE HAVE THE RIGHT MONEY!!! Further rounds will be held on Friday 5th June, Friday 3rd July, Friday 7th August at Elsworth Moto Parc and Saturday 5th September at Abington Park Farm with possibly a barbeque to finish. Awards at the end of the series to top 3 in each class, 4 of the 5 rounds to count, minimum of three rounds to be ridden to be eligible for an award. Next open event is the Rose and Crown trial at Croydon near Arrington on Sunday 10th May. Regs in April TSM and on the web. PLEASE try and enter before the day, it makes it so much easier for laying out the sections and for the Secretary of the Meeting. Observers urgently required. There seems to be some confusion over the rules for the Club Championships. At each club trial the winner in each class is awarded 10 points, second place 9 etc. down to 1 point. At the end of the year the winner is the rider with the highest points BUT the lowest scoring event is dropped. If you do not ride an event this is obviously a non score event, i.e. the lowest. This is done so that a rider who is unable to make an event, as most of you do, still has a good chance. This year as the Stonebridge was cancelled there should be 7 club trials to contest so the best 6 will count. Hope to see you Friday week. AWARDS FOR COLLECTION AT SIGNING ON Colin & Margaret |
